Britain’s Got Talent star Andrew Johnston says that, despite his Mr Nasty image, show judge Simon Cowell is ‘a really nice man’.

Fourteen-year-old opera singer Andrew, who became a finalist on the ITV1 talent search earlier this year, was speaking ahead of the launch of his debut album, One Voice.

Andrew said: “People say he’s really nasty on the telly but all he does is say what he thinks. But he’s normally always right because he’s really professional at what he does – and he’s a really nice man behind the scenes.”

Andrew added that the music mogul, who also appears as a judge on The X Factor, has been supporting him with work on the new album.

He said: “He’s been giving me everything I need, all the time I need – he’s taken time with my album because he wanted it to be right.”

But the pint-sized singer admitted it’s still a bit surreal having a contract with arguably the most successful man in pop.

He said: “It’s weird to have a contract with him – it’s just a dream come true.”

One Voice is released on September 29.
