Egg-thrower invades Britain's Got Talent final
The Britain's Got Talent final has been hit by an unexpected twist after a mystery woman invaded the stage and pelted Simon Cowell with eggs.
The unnamed assailant took to the stage midway through the performance by singing siblings Richard and Adam Johnson.
And she managed to hurl several eggs at Simon before being removed from the stage by security - forcing him to remove his jacket for the remainder of the show.
Afterwards the mogul drily remarked: "I said on Twitter the other day that I don’t like eggs and I really don’t like them now."
Fellow judge Amanda Holden was similarly disparaging, telling the boys: "You go straight into my soul and heart and I get massive goosebumps. The only person with egg on their face is that stupid cow that did that."
However the incident captured the imagination of Twitter users, who quickly dubbed it 'egg-gate'.
And the next act on, teenage comedian Jack Carroll, kicked off his routine with a reference to the incident - with the judges quickly seeing the funny side as a result.
"Only you could turn that business with the eggs into something funny," Simon told him.
The egg-thrower was later confirmed by judge David Walliams to be a member of the show's orchestra.
Saturday's show also saw the return of ventriloquist Steve Hewlett who was voted the wild card by the judges.
Steve took full advantage of his second chance, wowing the audience and panel with his Simon Cowell puppet - which this time was also joined by a Sinitta puppet.
