Coronation Street’s Debbie Rush believes that, despite her year from hell, her character Anna Windass is ‘doing pretty all right’.

Debbie told What’s on TV at the British Soap Awards that Anna’s a survivor: “Any advice for Anna? I don’t know, I think she’s doing pretty all right, don’t you?

“She’s not had a nervous breakdown considering she’s had a break-up of her relationship, she’s been evicted from her house, her 12-year-old daughter’s had a baby and she’s got two jobs she’s keeping down… I think she’s doing all right, considering everything’s such a mess. I think Anna needs to give us some advice!”

Debbie said she and Ellie Leach, who plays her daughter Faye, have had ‘amazing feedback’ following Faye’s teenage pregnancy storyline, despite many people being ‘dubious’ about the plot while it was developing.

Ellie was nominated for Best Young Performer at the British Soap Awards, but lost to Emmerdale’s Amelia Flanagan on the night.

The British Soap Awards screen on ITV on Thursday, April 21.
