Shayne Ward told This Morning that his girlfriend Sophie Austin is joining the hit BBC1 period drama

Corrie star Shayne Ward has divulged that girlfriend, ex Hollyoaks actress Sophie Austin, will star in the new series of hit BBC1 period drama Call the Midwife.

Shayne was appearing on ITV’s This Morning to talk about his Corrie character Aidan Connor’s comeuppance at the hands of fiancee Eva Price, but was unable to contain the news about Sophie.

He told Phil and Holly: “Sophie’s an incredible mum because I’m always working, but Sophie’s actually just starting a new job.”

He continued: “She’s probably going to kill me for saying this, but I have to say this because I’m excited for you, but she’s just started Call The Midwife.”

He and Sophie, who played Hollyoaks’ Gloved Hand Killer Lindsey Butterfield, are recent parents to daughter Willow. It was while discussing their new arrival that Shayne appeared unable to keep the secret.

When Phil responded that he’d broken a secret, Shayne replied: “It’s going to get announced. She can announce it whenever she wants… I’m very proud of her.”

It would signal a big change to his life. “I’ve said to her, of course we’ve got little Willow and she’ll be with me. I’ll be daddy day care,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shayne was less open about his Corrie character Aidan, who will soon experience the scornful fury of fiancee Eva, who he’s been cheating on with Maria.

Shayne and Sophie had Willow in December last year.
