Casualty star George Rainsford reveals the entire Casualty cast - snapped celebrating their win last year- are attending tomorrow's National TV Awards

It’s an exciting time of year in TV Land. Tomorrow night the National TV Awards are being held at the O2 London, and it’s a glamorous affair.

One of the most special things about the NTAs is that actual viewers vote for winners. Last year BBC1’s Casualty managed to take home a coveted gong, but can they do the same this year?

What’s on TV talked to Casualty star George Rainsford, who plays Ethan Hardy on the medical drama, about this year’s NTAs…

Are you going to the NTAs this year?

“I am going to the NTAs. In fact, we’re all going this year, because we won last year!”

Does that mean filming on Casualty has been suspended?

“It’s a bit crazy but it’s been worked into the schedule very carefully. A small group of us, who are very busy at work, are being driven back that night.”

Are you partying or heading back to the Casualty set in Cardiff?

“I’m first up for filming the following morning and in every scene so while I am going to the NTAs unfortunately I can’t enjoy it too much, shall we say! Four of us are going back to Cardiff in a car at 11.30pm so we can keep the show going the next day.”

At lest you get to attend the ceremony…

“Exactly, it’s better than not going at all. It should be a really good night. I went a couple of years ago and had a great time.”

If Casualty win will you be doing Ethan’s celebratory dance, as seen when he was made a consultant last week?

“[Laughing] We had filmed all the London scenes the day before and I was really overtired when I did Ethan’s silly little dance. I think I went a bit too far with it… I was really hoping it would be edited out!”

This week Ethan is made acting clinical lead in Casualty. Is this the beginning of a happier phase for the distressed doctor?

“I’m definitely pitching it that way. Ethan’s been through a lot of misery of late so I want to establish him as having got though that. But, just around the corner is quite a lot of responsibility…”

The NTAs are broadcast on ITV this Tuesday at 7.30pm.
