Casualty's new character Connie Beauchamp will be 'top dog', the show's executive producer has said.
Amanda Mealing is joining the BBC's Saturday night medical drama early next year as consultant Connie.
Casualty's executive producer Oliver Kent said in a BBC video: "Connie will be a new brilliant top dog for Casualty... Connie's arrival in Casualty will really set the cat among the pigeons, not least with Ash and Zoe, who she will instantly upstage."
Oliver said that there would be some new characters joining and others leaving, while the set will get a makeover.
"There will be a little bit more focus on the regular characters themselves, because I felt that we'd been looking away from them a little bit in the last couple of years and I'm quite keen to get to know them a bit better as a viewer," he added.
