Celebrity Big Brother 2010 winner Alex Reid has admitted he is “speechless” at being crowned series champion ahead of Dane Bowers and Vinnie Jones.

The actor and cage fighter – best known as the boyfriend of Katie Price – told Davina McCall he was “overwhelmed” after receiving 65.9 per cent of the public vote in Friday’s final.

And having entered the house to a resounding chorus of boos at the start of the series, he looked thrilled to be greeted by a cheering crowd when he left the house as the winner.

“What an amazing fantastic start to a new year. I’m so amazed at this. I’m speechless,” he said.

“My whole agenda in there was just to be myself. I know I’m a good guy. I’m here right now and I’ve won this, so it is a good start.

“Alex Reid is a man on a mission, he is going to win a fight in three months,” he added. “And I’m a man in love. I’m sorry guys but I’m not sorry, I love Katie Price.”

Meanwhile runner-up Dane Bowers said he and the other housemates were “very very happy” that Alex had won.

“A lot of us have been thinking over the past couple of days we’d like to see Alex win it. The one thing you can say about him is he’s a gentleman,” Bowers said.

And of his own experience in the house, he added, “I can honestly say I’ve absolutely loved it. I even said at one point I even loved the punishments. Maybe I have a bit more confidence. I’m actually now itching to work.”

Vinnie Jones, who finished in third place, also had words of praise for Alex.

“I really feel for the fellow because he got the biggest boos going in and hopefully he will get the biggest cheers going out,” he said.

And the footballer turned actor also defended himself against accusations that he had been trying to control the other housemates.

“I was just trying to keep order in the house because a lot of people were selfish, especially around the fridge. I’ve been a captain all my life and I was just trying to keep some stability,” he insisted. “I didn’t want anyone to go hungry.”
