Corrie boss Kate Oates has told us that she’d like actress Alison King – better known as Weatherfield’s Carla Connor – to be in the soap for as long as possible.
The producer confirmed last month that the 44 year old star would be reprising her role as the former Underworld boss, and would be on screens around Christmas.
Asked how long Alison will be on the cobbles for, Kate joked: “As long as I can have her!”, adding: “I want to explore a different side to her character; I want to see her tell a different kind of story. I shan’t spoil it by saying how long I’ve got her for, but I’d keep Ali for ever and ever if I could.”
Carla left the cobbles in May last year, after her wedding to Nick Tilsley was ruined. Alison King said she want to pursue other projects, and spend more time with her daughter, Daisy.
Asked about the drama that lies in store for Carla, Kate revealed that the character’s friendship with Michelle (Kym Marsh) will be put to the test.
“Their friendship is really strong, so anything that challenges it will have to feel very truthful and quite deep,” she says. “I just want to explore the dynamics. It would be a shame to leave everything as is. What’s good about these long standing friendships is when you challenge them and see what could potentially break them.
“But that’s not the story that we bring Carla in with. We bring her in with something a bit more unexpected…”
