Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has said he would like to stay on the show for a while longer.

The 25-year-old actor, who plays Tommy Duckworth, admitted he is in the dark over his future on Coronation Street.

“I’m contracted until February and then my three-year deal is up. We’ve not had any talks yet about what they have in store for me,” he told the Daily Star Sunday.

“I don’t know if they will keep me, I’ll have to wait and see, but I would love to stay. I’m still loving the show. It’s such a good group of people and I’ve been rammed lately with some amazing storylines.”

Chris’s co-star Michelle Keegan, who portrays his screen girlfriend Tina McIntyre, is also set to leave the show, but he said her exit storyline is being kept under wraps.

The actor continued: “I think Michelle [leaves in] March, so I think if they were killing us both off together they would have already signed me up until March when Michelle leaves.

“I don’t have a clue what happens or how she leaves. I don’t think even Michelle knows. I imagine we will still be together when she leaves, but whatever happens I’m sure she’s going to have an exciting and dramatic exit, which hopefully I will be involved in.”

Chris – who joined Coronation Street in March 2011 – hinted he would like to explore more of Tommy’s dark side, adding: “I would quite like Tommy to maybe go off the rails again a bit – I like playing bad characters.”
