Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell, 49, is believed to have told friends: “I am winning my battle with the booze,” and has checked himself out of rehab after going three weeks without a drink.

The Sunday Mirror reports that Michael planned leave the £2,000-a-week clinic, The Priory, near Hale, Greater Manchester, where he has been treated for alcoholism on Easter Sunday.

Michael attended the clinic after he admitted that he used cocaine to cope with stress during his trial in September when he was cleared of child sex abuse charges.

The actor, who plays mechanic Kevin Webster in Coronation Street, is not believed to be returning to the soap in the near future.

Instead, he is set to spend quality time with his girlfriend Louise Gibbons, 38.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Mike is in a much stronger place. Being in rehab has made him reassess his life.

“He is already fitter and mentally stronger after seeking the extra support. The past few weeks have really helped, but he knows he still has a long road ahead of him.

“He’s taking his recovery day by day and now he’s out he knows he needs to be more determined than ever.”

Michael recently returned to Coronation Street in his role as mechanic Kevin Webster but was written out of the show again after admitting a drink problem.

He is expected to return to the soap later this year.
