Coronation Street star Alan Halsall and Lucy-Jo Hudson have announced they’re splitting after seven years of marriage.

The couple confirmed the news in a statement on Monday: “Lucy-Jo Hudson and Alan Halsall are sad to announce that they have separated. They have shared many wonderful years together and will remain close friends. They ask for privacy at this emotional time, to allow both to focus on their beautiful daughter Sienna-Rae, to ensure her continued happiness.”

Alan, who plays mechanic Tyrone Dobbs, married Lucy-Jo, who played Katy Harris from 2002-2005, in 2009 and had a daughter, Sienna-Rae, in 2013.

Coronation Street fans will be surprised at the announcement. The couple appeared to be one of the happiest in soapland.

Last year the couple were talking about expanding their family further.

“A psychic has told me I’m going to have twins,” said Lucy-Jo. “We have twins in both our families.”

Alan revealed his priorities had changed after they became parents: “I miss my little girl, Sienna-Rae, when I’m at work so, as soon as I finish a scene, I’m in the car as quick as I can because I want to be part of everything.

Only last month Alan retweeted his wife after she revealed her excitement about working on Doctors.

It read: “Loving working on BBCDoctors for the next few months. Great “dark” storyline. So good to be back at work x”
