Coronation Street’s Debbie Rush has said that she thinks her screen alter ego Anna Windass would choose daughter Faye over boyfriend Owen Armstrong if it came to the crunch.

Viewers of the ITV1 soap have seen Anna left reeling after Faye – played by Ellie Leach – tracks down her birth father Tim (Joe Duttine) and begins seeing him – leaving Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies) feeling somewhat sidelined.

However Debbie said that Anna is desperate not to lose her daughter. “He is upset because it has gone from a situation where Faye was starting to treat Owen more like a dad to now saying that she hates him,” she said.

“He feels very pushed out but as usual he goes about things the wrong way and Anna gives him a warning. He is well meaning but he just doesn’t deal with situations like this very well.”

Debbie added that while Anna is close to Owen, Faye will always remain her priority – and that it’s not the first time she has faced this dilemma.

“She had to choose before when ex-husband Eddie was around and I think she would choose Faye again, but it would be more difficult now because she really does care for Owen and she knows they could have a great family life,” the actress explained.
