Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has revealed that she is thrilled this year’s British Soap Awards will be held in Manchester.

Jennie, who plays Fiz Stape in the soap, has been nominated for two prizes – best actress and best screen partnership – and said she would love to have the chance to collect an award on home turf.

“I’m thrilled. We do always have a laugh on the train down because we don’t get out very much together en masse, so it’s normally Corrie on tour,” the actress said.

“But this year EastEnders are going to have the chance to have a train journey together.”

Fiz has been part of some dramatic storylines over the past 12 months, notably reuniting with childhood sweetheart Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) after rescuing him from his abusive relationship with Kirsty, played by Natalie Gunmede.

As well as her two nominations, she will also join with her fellow Corrie cast members in hoping that the show wins the best soap prize.

And she added that, in true awards style, that she was already planning what she would wear to the bash.

“I’m having a dress made so if it comes off it’ll be that,” she said, “but if not I’d better get to Top Shop!”

The British Soap Awards will take place on May 18.
