Former Coronation Street star Liz Dawn has revealed that she misses Bill Tarmey, and that she still thinks about him every day.
The 73-year-old actress and her late co-star were one of the ITV soap’s most beloved couples, Vera and Jack Duckworth, until she left Coronation Street in 2008.
Bill died last November while on holiday in Tenerife. “We were best friends and he was wonderful to work with. I think about him every day – for some reason he comes into my mind,” she told ITV’s Daybreak. “It was like having a second husband only we never had a row. We never had sex, you know. It was one of those marriages where you don’t consummate.”
She continued: “I’m proud we did so well. We were always asked to open bingo halls, supermarkets… We opened everything but a toilet. If the money had been right I’d have pushed the flush.”
Liz, who quit the soap after being diagnosed with the lung disease emphysema, admitted she once knocked out Bill with a fish.
“I once hit him with a piece of frozen fish… He went straight over the table on to the settee. I couldn’t believe a piece of fish could knock him out,” she recalled.
Liz also said she had been getting riled up over the domestic abuse storyline involving Vera’s former lodger Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede), saying: “I get so upset when I watch it because she’s evil. I want Fiz (Stape, Tyrone’s girlfriend) to punch her one.”
