Michelle Keegan has signed up to spend another year in Coronation Street.

The 21-year-old actress – who plays feisty Tina McIntyre – arrived on the Street last January as the girlfriend of David Platt (Jack P Shepherd).

And after winning over viewers and the Best Newcomer British Soap Award, she’s proved she deserves to stay even if Tina and David aren’t together and her contract has now been renewed, reports the Daily Star.

Michelle said: “My contract has been renewed for another year and I am thrilled to bits. My career has taken off. I’ve got a lot of juicy storylines coming up and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

A soap insider added: “Michelle has done a fantastic job since her character was introduced. It is not easy establishing yourself as a regular cast member but she has done just that.

“She is a very talented actress and is really popular among the Corrie fans. We have big plans and there are some fantastic storylines coming up for her in the next 12 months.”

Since arriving in the soap Tina has had a secret termination behind David’s back after discovering she was pregnant with his baby, had to cope with David being jailed in a Young Offenders’ Institute for attempting to murder his mother, and has helped to introduce the Windass family to the Street.
