Double wedding of Eva Price and Aidan Connor, and Jenny Bradley and Johnny Connor will kick off September launch for six episodes a week in Coronation Street

ITV has today announced the transmission date for the sixth episode of Coronation Street. The first extra episode of the soap will air on Wednesday 20th September at 8.30pm. “This means that Corrie fans will get a double helping of their favourite show every Monday, Wednesday and Friday,” said Executive Producer, Kieran Roberts.

The first of the new six episode pattern will kick off in dramatic style with the double wedding of Eva Price and Aidan Connor, and Jenny Bradley and Johnny Connor. The week will also see Street stalwart Rita Tanner’s health take a turn for the worse, while Jim Moir – better know as comedian Vic Reeves – will make his debut as Colin Callen, the flamboyant boss of News Co – organisers of the Mr and Mrs Competition that newlyweds Mary and Norris Cole have entered.

Meanwhile, Kieran Roberts added that Corrie’s extra episode will result in big changes behind the scenes. New studio space has been created, whilst construction is underway to create new outside sets, which is expected to be completed in early 2018.

“Getting ready to deliver our extra weekly episode has taken our amazing team more than a year of hard work on everything from story-lining to studio building,” he said. “Now we’re thrilled to be launching our extra weekly episode on Wednesday 20th September, at the heart of a truly unmissable week of high drama, high emotion and heartwarming comedy.”
