Todd Carty has become the latest celebrity to get the boot from Dancing on Ice, after losing out to Ellery Hanley in the skate-off.
Although the former EastEnders star had proven popular with the audience and public alike, his performances had not done well with the judges, and he had struggled to reach double figures on the scoreboard.
As such, his exit seemed something of a foregone conclusion – although only four out of the five judges opted to save rugby star Hanley, Ruthie Henshall voting for Todd instead.
“I’m judging this from a performance point of view,” she explained, “and I can’t believe I’m saying this.” Robin Cousins also admitted that “from a performance point of view it was close.”
Carty – who will be remembered for the already legendary moment when he stumbled and slid off the rink midway through one of his routines – offered heartfelt thanks to everybody who had voted for him
“I’d like to thank from the bottom of my heart every single member of the British public who’s put me through and everyone who’s been in this auditorium for the last five weeks,” he said.
“At least now I can have a rest and try another sport.”
