Melinda Messenger has become the latest casualty of Dancing on Ice after finding herself in the bottom two with Jessica Taylor.

The former glamour model had survived the skate-off on a number of occasions – including seeing off Ellery Hanley on last week’s show – although ultimately proved no match for the former Liberty X singer, whose inclusion in the bottom two was something of a surprise for the judges.

Despite all voting to save Jessica however, they appeared to be sorry to lose Melinda.

“Your presentation each week has brightened the show,” Nicky Slater told her, “and I’ve enjoyed seeing how you’ve developed, but it’s not strong enough against Jessica. Ruthie Henshall told Melinda she was “gorgeous”, while Robin Cousins said she been “delightful” to watch.

Jason Gardiner, meanwhile, injected a note of controversy into the proceedings with a sly dig at Jessica.

“Thankfully this isn’t part of the show that requires a personality contest, this is about your technical merit and what you can do,” he said. “Therefore I save Jess.”

Melinda said afterwards she had “loved every second” of her time on the show.

“It’s been absolutely brilliant,” she said, “and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Six celebrity skaters now remain, with Ray Quinn still the hot favourite to win the series.
