The fifth week of Dancing on Ice 2009 has seen yet another triumph for series favourite Ray Quinn – with his highest score yet from the judges.

The former X Factor finalist scored a whopping 26.5 points out of a possible 30 for his lively routine to Jamiroquai‘s Canned Heat – and received some hefty words of praise from the panel in the process.

“Dancing is what you do on ice,” Jason Gardiner told him. “That was brilliant, I forgot you were on ice, it was mesmerising. I loved it.”

It was also a good week for former Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon and ex Liberty X singer Jessica Taylor, who tied for second place on the scoreboard.

Jessica picked up plenty of plaudits for her Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers-inspired routine. “You did a very nice job,” Robin Cousins said, “Good quality skating.”

Cousins also told Zoe that she was “lovely to watch” after she had skated to the classic ballad Loving You. “With your long legs, your lines go on forever,” he added.

But not everybody had such an easy time. Roxanne Pallett – who slammed Gardiner over the weekend for his harsh remarks in previous shows – once again fell victim to Mr Frosty’s acid tongue when he said watching her skating was like “going to the dentist”.

And once again Todd Carty failed to reach double figures on the scoreboard, picking up a paltry 8.5 points from the judges.

“You made me smile,” said Karen Barber afterwards. “We’re still playing catch up and I’m not sure if we’ll get there. But we’ll try.”
