Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville and Line of Duty star Keeley Hawes have joined the cast of BBC Two’s Shakespearian series The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses.

The second three-part series of The Hollow Crown will be based around more of William Shakespeare’s history plays, with the first two films dedicated to Henry VI and the final one on Richard III.

Hugh joins the cast for the third film, Richard III, alongside Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, who will play the infamous monarch from the House of York, who famously lost the battle of Bosworth field. His remains were found buried in a Leicester car park last year.

Hugh Bonneville will play Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, with Judi Dench playing Cecily, Duchess of York, Richard’s mother.

Playing Queen Elizabeth, Keeley Hawes also appears in Richard III, but will appear first in the second film of the series.
