Actress Julie Graham has told whatsontv.co.uk that the character she plays in new BBC1 drama Bonekickers could easily have been male.
Julie plays feisty Professor Gillian Magwilde, who leads a team of archaeologists as they attempt to solve historical mysteries.
Julie said of Magwilde: "She's not defined by her gender in any way - Magwilde could easily be a male character. It just so happens she's a woman and she's great at her job.
"She's very complex, very strong. But she does have a much more vulnerable side."
Luckily, Magwilde's got a loyal right-hand man in the shape of Dr Ben Ergha, played by Hustle's Adrian Lester.
Describing Ben, Adrian said: "He's got a cool head. He likes to do things by the book and he kind of slows down Magwilde."
Alongside them is walking encyclopedia Gregory 'Dolly' Parton, played by Hugh Bonneville (Miss Austen Regrets).
Hugh said of his character: "He's no stranger to the pub and quite a stranger to the gym. But he spends most of his time in the library; he's happiest going through old manuscripts. - so long as there's a bottle of claret nearby."
Bonekickers starts on Tuesday July 8 at 9pm on BBC1.
