Casualty stars feel the heat

The new season of Casualty gets off to an explosive start when Adam, Polly, Jeff and Dixie get trapped in a burning inferno.

They're treating injured teenager Ella (Waterloo Road's Katie Griffiths) in a derelict shopping centre when an unstoppable fire rages through the building. The Casualty team, including new junior doctor Heather - played by Spooks' Georgia Moffett - find their lives in danger as they're cornered by flames and falling debris.

The experience proves fatal for one of the cast-members - but who doesn't get out alive?

This opening two-part special airs on BBC1 on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September and also stars Heartbeat's Joe McFadden as homeless man Alistair. This is a recurring-guest slot for the Scottish actor who quit his role as PC Joe Mason in Heartbeat earlier this year.

Shameless star Anthony Flanagan is also caught-up in the fiery series opener when he makes an appearance as Lee, a lonely security guard haunted by his glory days in the army.

Georgia Moffett stars as just one of eight new junior doctors who have joined team.

Since it first aired in 1986 the long-running medical drama has seen many of its unknown cameos go on to become big stars. Kate Winslet, Christopher Eccleston, Minnie Driver, Jonny Lee Miller, Helen Baxendale and Orlando Bloom are just a few of the many top actors who took their first steps on the Casualty wards.
