Beginning their quest to defend the world from alien activity in modern-day London, the Doctor and Donna fly through time and space, ending up in some unusual places and meeting some strange characters along the way. Episode two sees them go back in time to ancient Pompeii, they meet legendary murder mystery novelist Agatha Christie in episode seven, and they find themselves in an intergalactic spa threatened by aliens in episode 10. But Donna's not the only one assisting the Time Lord this series. Former sidekicks Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) and Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) will be returning - and Torchwood's Captain Jack Harkness is putting in an appearance too! Like series three, Doctor Who's fourth outing boasts a whole host of guest appearances including ER's Alex Kingston, Rosemary and Thyme star Felicity Kendal and ex-EastEnder Lindsay Coulson. Of course, any Doctor Who saga wouldn't be complete without those enemies and, this time round, the Doctor tackles The Ood and The Sontarans. And watch out for the dramatic finale involving evil scientist Davros. Details of the final three episodes of series four are being kept under wraps, with creator Russell T Davies offering just a hint of what's in store for our time-travelling hero. "We've got a huge climax to series four planned," he says. "People were saying: 'I can't believe you've done that'!"
