Bad back forces David Tennant off stage
09/12/2008 - 15:00

David Tennant was forced to pull out of his sell-out role as Hamlet on Monday due to ongoing back problems.
The Doctor Who star had to miss the performance at London's Novello Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company is waiting to find out if he will be well enough for tonight’s show.
An RSC spokeswoman told the BBC: "We're waiting to hear whether he'll be able to perform tonight on press night."
Edward Bennett, who normally stars as Laertes in the production, played Hamlet in David's absence last night to a standing ovation.
David Tennant announced in November that he would no longer play Doctor Who after four special episodes are broadcast in 2009 and 2010.
Actors rumoured to be under consideration for the role include Cold Feet star James Nesbitt, Paterson Joseph and Life on Mars star John Simm and David Morrisey.
