Colin Salmon to be first black Doctor Who?

Another day, another potential candidate for the Doctor Who job - it's been reported that actor Colin Salmon could become the first black Time Lord.

BBC bosses are apparently keen for the James Bond star to replace David Tennant, who leaves in 2009, according to The Sun.

Colin, best known for playing M's assistant in three 007 films, appeared as Dr Moon in the sci-fi series earlier this year.

A BBC source told the paper: "He made a good impression when he appeared and bosses think the time is right to have the first black Doctor."

Colin was also tipped to land the Bond role before it went to Daniel Craig, currently appearing on the big screen in Quantum of Solace.

And in an interview with the Telegraph on Thursday, Daniel said that Barack Obama's victory in the US presidential elections paved the way for the first black Bond.

He said: "I think the role could easily be played by a black actor, because the character created by Ian Fleming in the Fifties has undergone a great deal of evolution and continues to be updated."
