David Tennant is to reprise his stage turn as Hamlet for a television play, the BBC said.
The Doctor Who star will perform in the BBC Two production with the main cast members of the recent Royal Shakespeare Company version - including Star Trek actor Patrick Stewart.
BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow said the 180-minute screen production of Hamlet was "a wonderful opportunity... to bring one of the great stage successes of last year to a wider audience".
Tickets sold out in hours for David's stage performances, which opened in Stratford-Upon-Avon last year and later moved to London.
He was unable to perform for a while after hurting his back.
The BBC said David finished filming his farewell Doctor Who episodes last week to be shown later this year.
David announced he was leaving the BBC show at last year's National Television Awards.
