Doctor Who studios open to the public

The studios where iconic BBC television series Doctor Who is filmed has opened its doors to the public for the first time.

The first guests to see just how big it really is inside the Doctor's time-travelling TARDIS were the winners of a Children in Need competition.

One hundred winners are being given guided tours of the set and the first 25, plus three guests each, were the first to be shown around.

Re-creator of the BBC series, Russell T Davies, was at the studios to welcome the guests.

The Doctor Who spin-off show Torchwood is also filmed at the studios in Upper Boat, near Pontypridd, south Wales, and guests visited the underground headquarters featured in the series.

Visitors will see workshops, video editing suites, six sound stages and a props store. The tour also includes a 'mystery stop', with guests sworn to secrecy about what they see.
