The Impossible Astronaut

The Doctor has been killed! But, surely he hasn't really been killed? We know he was shot by the strange astronaut. Is this really a vision of the future? And, if it is, is it one that can be changed?

Things switch back in time and we see The Doc, River (the returning Alex Kingston), companion Amy and her new husband Rory all meeting up in America in 1969.

Man is on the verge of taking his first steps on the moon, but President Richard Nixon is alarmed that he's getting strange phone calls from a frightened young American.

The Doctor teams up with a helpful ex-FBI agent and they discover that the world is facing a terrifying new enemy, The Silence, who have been hiding undercover for centuries because they can wipe memories. The Doctor discovers a way of making a recording so he can remember that he's seen The Silence, thus giving him a chance to defeat them. But he still doesn't know how he can beat them...
