Five injured on set of Heartbeat

Five members of Heartbeat's cast and crew have been taken to hospital after a tractor accident during filming.

One star of the popular ITV1 show was taken by air ambulance to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough, after the tractor rolled down an embankment in the village of Grosmont, near Whitby, North Yorkshire. The others were taken to hospitals in the area.

It is not yet known how serious the injuries are, but police say none are believed to be life-threatening, according to the BBC website.

An ITV spokeswoman confirmed four of those injured had already been discharged from hospital.

She did say that a "guest actor received chest injuries", but wouldn't reveal his identity.

"We're hopeful he'll be discharged from hospital tomorrow. No further details will be released whilst a Health and Safety Executive investigation is ongoing," she added.

Set in the late 1960s, Heartbeat stars Joe McFadden and centres on the life of the police and inhabitants of the fictional village of Aidensfield.

Tricia Penrose and former Coronation Street
actress Nikki Sanderson also star in the series, which returns to ITV1 later this year.
