Actress Phoebe Thomas is to quit the BBC1 medical drama Holby City after three years.
Thomas, who plays nurser Maria Kendall in the show, has said she wants to pursue other projects.
"I've loved every minute, it's a fantastic show to be on," the 26-year-old said.
"The cast are wonderful and you get to work with some fantastic directors. The executive producer has really taken the show in a great direction, but I think you do have to move on eventually."
Thomas will remain on screens until the summer.
As Kendall, her biggest storylines have included her on-off romance with Sam Strachan, played by actor Tom Chambers. The character was also in the spotlight after being payalysed in a car accident in late 2009.
