Holby's Hugh: 'Ric has to take time out' (VIDEO)

Hugh Quarshie has revealed why the time has come for Ric to take leave from Holby City.

Surgeon Ric has been struggling to work on the wards while undergoing treatment for cancer.

And, as Hugh explained, in next Tuesday's episode of the BBC drama, Ric is forced to swallow his pride and admit that he needs time to recuperate.

Hugh told whatsontv.co.uk: "Ric has to go because he can't operate, he can't be in theatre while he's got this illness. So he has to recover and come back with renewed vigour."

Hugh himself intends to use the time he's away from Holby to have a well-earned rest.

"I'm going to be having a holiday," he said. "Filming Holby does take it out of you - it's like being on a treadmill..."
