Laila Rouass quits Holby City

Laila Rouass has reportedly quit Holby City.

The 40-year-old mother-of-one joined the BBC1 hospital drama as surgeon Sahira Shah in February, but the Daily Mirror reports she will leave in April or May after telling friends she wanted to try something different.

A BBC spokeswoman apparently told the paper the former Footballer's Wives star was leaving by 'mutual consent' to pursue other projects.

A Holby City insider said her character had been a big hit, but there was still time to write her a fitting exit.

When she joined the show, Laila said: "Sahira is a mum so I can relate to her struggle balancing motherhood and a career."
