Hope Springs

*Hope Springs screens on BBC One on Sunday evenings at 8pm*

Shot on location in Wanlockhead, Scotland, and starring award-winning actresses Alex Kingston (ER, Lost In Austen) and Annette Crosbie (One Foot in the Grave, Little Dorrit), the beautiful scenery is the backdrop for a lively family drama, which follows four ex-jailbirds from England who are trying to escape their pasts.

Alex Kingston plays Ellie, the leader of the ex-cons; the others are Hannah (Sian Reeves, Cutting It), Shoo (Christine Bottomley, The Street) and Josie (Vinette Robinson). Their big getaway was Ellie's idea and she's funding their relocation with money stolen from her gangster husband.

The women are aiming for sunny days and hot nights in Barbados, but fate intervenes and takes them to the remote Scottish village of Hope Springs, where they meet Sadie Cairncross (Annette Crosbie) and where their lives will be changed forever.

Hope Springs is an eight-part comedy-drama from the makers of hit series such as Waterloo Road and Bad Girls, and co-stars features Ronni Ancona (The Big Impression), Paul Higgins (The Thick of It) and Alec Newman (Reichenbach Falls).
