A quick chat with Kingdom's Karl Davies
It's a fine romance for Kingdom's young solicitor Lyle Anderson... reveals former Emmerdale star Karl Davies

At the end of the last series, Kyle was planning to head for London. Why did he accept when Peter Kingdom made him junior partner?
"Lyle is coming around to the idea that the people and characters of Market Shipborough are more exciting and intriguing than the big city. He is enjoying himself. I don’t think he’d survive in the big city. I think his naivety wouldn’t get him very far."

There’s another reason for Lyle to stay. In episode two doesn’t he fall in love?
"There’s romance for Kyle at last. An actually girlfriend – a girl who is actually interested in him for once! Lyle gets a case which involves him going to the council office, where he is stunned by a beautiful girl, Emily, who works there. It throws him completely off track with what he is trying to find out."

How does he charm her – and do they end up tying the knot?
"He becomes clumsy and awkward, which thankfully she finds quite endearing. They end up with this blossoming romance, which has been fantastic to play. Kate who plays Emily is lovely. We got on well and we have had some daft stuff to do. The romance gets reasonably serious, but there’s no bended knee – no wedding bells for Lyle yet!"

Are there any stunts in this series?
"In episode three, a builder has plans to develop the local convent and Lyle is trying to help the nuns and save the convent. The builder takes umbrage and decides the best way to deal with me is to get me out of the picture and leave me dangling from a crane. That’s definitely me dangling from the crane, not a stuntman. Then the builder tried to set me in cement. It was great fun. I love those days. I do have a stuntman when there is something dodgy that needs doing though!"

You found fame as Robert Sugden in Emmerdale. Would you like to play another nasty?
"I’ve been a nice guy for a bit too long. The last four or five jobs have been nice characters, so I’d like to open the door to a darker character for a change. Although I love all the light-hearted stuff in Kingdom, I’d like to mix it up a bit!"
