Stephen Fry kiss offer causes website crash

Stephen Fry's charity offer to kiss the highest online bidder caused a website to crash.

The 51-year-old actor and TV presenter is an avid Twitter user and sent out a tweet over the weekend to let his 198,830 followers know he will be 'kissing for conservation' to raise money for charity Elephant Family.

Stephen sent out the following tweet at 10.42am on February 14: "If anyone _really_ wants to kiss me, well - http://tinyurl.com/frykiss - it's for elephantfamily.org (check them out) a favourite cause."

A huge response caused the charity's website to crash and saw bids to receive a kiss from Stephen rise from £50 to £800.

Stephen then sent out another tweet just over 20 minutes later: "Oh dear. Once again, as you say, a crash. http://tinyurl.com/frykiss can't cope. In this case an elephant stampede seems an apt comparison."

The online bidding to receive a smacker from Stephen ends on March 11 and the lucky winner will receive a kiss on the face from the man himself, as well as an official signed photograph of the tryst.

Other celebrities offering kisses include Nigel Havers, Sophie Dahl, Duchess of York and Trinny Woodall, and many more.

The money raised will go towards helping the endangered Asian elephant.
