Who is Peter Kingdom?

Peter Kingdom's a man who has always had a good sense of himself; he knows he's a good solicitor, a loyal friend, someone the people of Market Shipborough can turn to in times of crisis. Even Norfolk aristocracy seek his counsel…

One particular toff turns to Peter when his brother, a duke, starts selling off his titles on an internet auction site. He's sure the duke is spending the money he makes on drugs. Peter's investigation, though, reveals a more complex story.

Meanwhile, following Peter's collapse at The Startled Duck, his doctor has been doing some investigating of his own and he's worried about what he has found out. As Peter is discussing a potential Kingdom partnership with his associate, Lyle Anderson, he gets a phone call from his doctor who insists on seeing him in person.

It seems that the doctor's test results have revealed the same as the birth certificate Gloria found in the attic: Peter's not who he thinks he is…

So, is he in fact someone who can even offer Lyle job security, or Gloria for that matter? And what about Beatrice and baby Petra? And Aunt Auriel? Is Peter someone who belongs in their lives, or is he someone they don't really know at all? The series ends with a real cliffhanger!
