Mrs Merdle plots against Fanny Dorrit
Thursday, 27 November 2008 20:00 BBC1

As the English expats cross paths in Venice, Mr Dorrit is delighted to be hobnobbing with the cream of London Society abroad, while Mrs Merdle is appalled to find her son, Edmund Sparker, being influenced once more by Fanny Dorrit. Mrs Merdle cannot accept this relationship and, with her husband's help, intends to do whatever she can to keep Fanny away from her precious boy.
Back in England, Henry Gowan's mother, the snobbish Mrs Gowan, visits Mr and Mrs Meagles. But it is not a courtesy call as the Meagles family soon find out as Mrs Gowan stands by her self-invented myth that they trapped her son into marriage.
At the Clennam house, Arthur has a surprise encounter with Rigaud on his mother's doorstep. When Arthur realises that Rigaud is most certainly a criminal, he wonders what business he could possibly have with Mrs Clennam.
