Will Sparkler's job keep him from Fanny?
Wednesday, 03 December 2008 20:00 BBC1

Mrs Merdle is delighted when Mr Merdle gets their son Edmund Sparkler a job at the Circumlocution Office, certain that she has finally managed to release her son from Fanny's clutches. Meanwhile, Amy is thrilled to think she may return to London should Fanny marry Sparkler, but her hopes are dashed when her father orders her to stay in Venice until she is fit to appear in Society.
Back in London, Pancks shows Arthur an official handbill declaring that the French traveller Rigaud, last seen at the House Of Clennam, is missing, presumed murdered. Upon learning that Rigaud himself is a killer and horrified that his respectable, but ice-cold, mother is suspected of foul play, Arthur rushes to Mrs Clennam to find out what's been going on and to try and clear her name...
Also, when Fanny detects a hint of romance between her father and Mrs General, she plots to ensure that her despised chaperone never becomes her stepmother.
