'Axed' Primeval to return to ITV1 in 2011

Hit sci-fi drama Primeval will return to screens in 2011 after a deal between TV bosses saved it from being axed.

In June an ITV spokesperson announced that they would not be commissioning a fourth series explaining: "After three very successful series of Primeval there are no plans at the present time for it to return to ITV.

“High quality drama remains a key part of the ITV schedule although our current focus is on post-watershed productions."

However, the broadcaster has revealed that stars Hannah Spearritt, Andrew Lee Potts and Jason Flemyng will return in 2011 with a deal allowing ITV1 to premiere the fourth series and digital channel Watch to be the first to show the fifth season.

ITV will then be allowed to show the fifth series of the sci-fi drama.

Director of ITV Drama Commissioning Laura Mackie said: “We’re delighted to have agreed this new deal to return Primeval to ITV1.”
