Jason Flemyng: 'Being gorgeous is a curse'

Jason Flemyng believes his unconventional looks have helped him to win a variety of screen roles.

The 42-year-old British actor - who has appeared in more than 50 films - said: "I haven't got Daniel's eyes or Jude's lips or Johnny's talent, but it's quite good in a way because as much as being really gorgeous is a blessing, it can also be a curse, which I'm sure those boys would say.

"It doesn't necessarily put them at the top of our list of people to feel sorry for, but it pigeonholes them into certain parts."

He added: "Whereas, because I've got a pot-belly, ginger hair and skinny wrists, I've managed to sort of avoid that and do a massively diverse spectrum of work, which I've loved."

Jason's work has taken him across the globe, but for now he's giving his passport a rest and returning to TV for his first series in more than a decade.

He plays Danny Quinn, the newest member of the prehistoric monster-fighting team in the third season of Primeval, ITV1's answer to Jurassic Park.

Jason said of his character: "He's an ex-copper who sort of trips over this team of scientists and experts whose job it is to keep quiet the fact there are these portals into a prehistoric world that only they can close.

"So he joins this team who race around the country getting T-Rexs out of car parks and putting them back to where they should be."

Primeval starts on ITV1 on Saturday March 28.
