Bill Ward: New character is nastier than Charlie!
15/04/2009 - 12:11

Bill Ward became a star as bullying builder Charlie Stubbs in Coronation Street. But now he’s playing an even nastier piece of work in Robin Hood.
Bill (pictured, with co-star Joanne Froggatt) guest stars in this Saturday’s episode of the BBC One drama as Ruthless Rufus, a new tax collector who brings misery to Locksley.
And Bill, who had riding lessons for the role, told TV Times that Rufus makes Charlie look almost like a pussycat.
“He’s by some distance the nastiest person I’ve ever played,” he laughs. “He’s horrible and has made his life out of extortion and just being unpleasant. There was lots of stunts and it was just great fun. I had an absolute blast!”
Charlie met his maker in 2007 in Coronation Street, courtesy of Tracy Barlow. So, will Rufus get an arrow in the eye from Robin?
“All I can say is that he certainly gets his comeuppance."
