Skins is to be adapted into a movie, it has been announced.
The award-winning hit E4 teen drama, which originally starred Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel, will be filmed in Bristol and the Isle of Man later this year.
A number of familiar characters from the four series are expected to feature in the film, which is due out in the summer of 2011 and will be directed by long-time Skins director Charles Martin.
The movie will be scripted by Skins writer Jack Thorne - who recently penned indie film The Scouting Book For Boys - working closely with Skins creator Bryan Elsley.
Each episode of Skins focused on different characters within a group of teenage friends of sixth form college age and the problems and issues they faced.
The third series saw the introduction of a whole new cast as the first generation grew up and moved on.
Skins has won critical acclaim for its hard-hitting storylines and for showing the reality of British teenage life.
An American version was made for MTV but axed.
The film is being developed for the big screen by Company Pictures, CinemaNX and Film4.
Steve Christian, chairman of CinemaNX, said: "The sheer depth in quality that Skins has delivered over the years makes it perfect for the big screen."
