Spooks star Rupert to quit in 2008

Spooks star Rupert Penry-Jones is apparently set to leave the hit spy series in explosive style next year.

Rupert plays MI5 agent Adam Carter and has become the hit series' leading figure since original stars Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes left.

But The Mirror reports that Rupert wants to leave the BBC One series on a high; he's currently in talks about his exit storyline, to be filmed next spring.

Spooks has a history of killing off its main stars.

Father of two Rupert, who's married to former Ballykissangel star Dervla Kirwan, has said he wants to move onto new challenges.

The sixth series climaxes on Tuesday, when Adam's character is in danger as he tries to save a school from a terrorist attack.

There are also doubts over the future of another key Spooks operative, Ros Myers, played by Hermione Norris, who vanished during this series after she betrayed MI5.
