Matron's taken ill
Sunday, 28 June 2009 20:00 ITV1

The staff at St Aidan's Royal Free have to rush to the aid of one of their own when Matron collapses, vomiting blood. Her niece, Susie Dixon, a trainee nurse, is with her and uses what nursing skills she has learned to help her aunt. Once at the hospital, and Dr Ormerod diagnoses an ulcer but Matron has lost a lot of blood – maybe too much...
Susie's distraught… She has caused Matron a lot of grief. Her repeated neglect of her nursing duties in favour of her affair with hospital administrator Adam Carnegie forced Matron to suspend her and it was Susie's future they were discussing when Matron fell ill. Her quick thinking has impressed the doctors but was it enough to save her aunt?
Meanwhile, Dr Burnett tells the father of feverish schoolgirl Mandy McMorrow to keep her home for a few days. But unemployed Mr McMorrow has a job interview he can't afford to miss. So, he suggests to Mandy's friend, Gail, that she skips school for a day to keep her company. But when he gets home, both girls are unconscious...
And Dr Weatherill's faced with a young man who's struggling to breathe. Is it asthma? An allergy? Or is he under pressure from his mother to do something he doesn't want to do?
