Gavin and Stacey role for Tom Jones

Hit comedy Gavin And Stacey is reportedly set to get a new cast member - in the shape of legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones.

The Sun reports that Jones has been lined up for a cameo appearance alongside the show's stars James Corden and Matthew Horne.

The veteran star teamed up with cast members for this year's Comic Relief single Islands In The Stream - and now, according to the paper, show bosses want to take the relationship a step further.

"They want me to be on the show," Jones said. "I know the guys, James and Matt, and they are talking about what they can do.

"They have characters in the show already so they have to think of the right one for me. I love comedy and jokes."

He added that he is pleased to see the show has put Wales on the map.

"For years its been Coronation Street for the North and EastEnders for the South but this is the first hit programme with Welsh people in it," Jones said.
