Gazza: 'It's a disgrace to use a child like that'

England football legend Paul Gascoigne says it's a disgrace that his son, Regan, has been allowed to attack him in a Channel 4 documentary to be broadcast on Monday.

Cutting Edge: Saving Gazza will apparently feature 12-year-old Regan saying: "Everyone thinks he's Gazza but because he's the top player doesn't mean he's a good dad or good person to be with, does it really?

"I don't think there's any point in helping him," Regan was reported on the Daily Telegraph's website.

"He's my dad. He should have helped and seen me all these years. I don't want to waste all my tears on him. I feel bad and sorry for him because he's in this kind of state, but it's not our fault".

Gascoigne told The Sun: "I'm not going to watch the programme. It's a disgrace to use a child like that."

He also blamed his ex-wife: "I can't believe Sheryl has let our son be used on television in this way.

"And it is beyond belief that a TV documentary has allowed an interview with a kid of 12 to be broadcast like this. How can a 12-year-old understand the things I've gone through? He is 12 for God's sake.

"I don't blame him one bit. He is my son and I love him and I always will," he told the Sun.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: "It is an intimate portrait of the Gascoigne family as they struggle to cope with an alcoholic and mentally ill father and ex-husband. Filming took part during last summer and reveals the heartache, chaos and fear Sheryl and the children face everyday.

"The film was made with their full co-operation. The family have seen the final film and are happy with the way their story has been told. The family was also offered counselling throughout and after filming was finished."
