Get ready for Baywatch - The Movie!

It was a cult hit in the early 90s, now cheesy TV hit Baywatch is set to make a comeback on the big screen, according to the papers.

The News Of The World reports that Baywatch - The Movie will be a big-budget comedy in the vein of the Police Academy movies, and will focus on the characters when they were training to be lifeguards in Los Angeles.

And the show's biggest star David Hasselhoff, has apparently cleared his schedules so that he can make a cameo appearance in the film. The 56-year-old has told studio bosses he is '100 per cent on board' the project.

Some of the show's other stars, including Pamela Anderson, Erika Eleniak and Yasmine Bleeth are said to be keen to star - but will be too old to play the younger incarnations of their characters featured in the film.

Hasselhoff, however, is hoping to be able to play the father of his original character, Mitch.

And current hot young stars including Twilight's Robert Pattinson and Transformers' Megan Fox are among those being tipped to appear.

The film is set for release in summer 2011. A source close to the project told the paper, "All of the original cast are super-excited."

The original TV series, about the Los Angeles County Lifeguards patrolling Californian beaches, ran from 1989 to 1999 and then from 1999-2001 as Baywatch Hawaii.

It holds the record for being the most watched TV show in the world, attracting over 1.1 billion viewers.
