Hugh Dennis wants Outnumbered to grow up on screen

Hugh Dennis has high hopes for hit BBC comedy show Outnumbered.

The British actor and comedian, who plays frazzled dad-of-three Pete in the Bafta-winning sitcom, wants to see the show continue until his on-screen children become teenagers.

"There will be another series, I would think, but you never quite know until the cameras roll - I would like to think so, and what encourages me on that view is that the Americans are working on a pilot and they would never look at any programme that they didn't think could run for years and years," he said.

In the US, the character of Pete will be played by actor Ken Marino.

"Obviously I would love to be a huge Hollywood star, but you would have to know so much about American suburban life so I don't think I could do it," Hugh said.

"A lot of the stuff that comes out in this series is stuff we've sort of lived and I don't know if I could apply the same for American television."

*The third series of Outnumbered premieres on BBC One on Thursday, April 8.
