Russell Tovey on Him & Her comparisons (VIDEO)

Russell Tovey reckons its a 'massive compliment' that his new show is being compared to The Royle Family.

The Being Human actor appears in BBC3's new comedy drama Him & Her, about loved-up couple Steve and Becky who live in a dingy bedsit in London.

Becky is played by Roman's Empire actress Sarah Solemani.

Russell told whatsontv.co.uk: "It's been compared to The Royle Family, which is a massive compliment, Men Behaving Badly and Game On, which are shows that deal with the dirty side of life.

"Those shows are comedy gold really and if we could be perceived like that then that would be fantastic."

Him & Her is not for the squeamish - in the first episode Becky is seen on the toilet and eating toast that's been on floor!

But Russell is confident that viewers will fall in love with the characters.

"I think they will,' he said. "It gets completely under your skin."

Him & Her starts on Monday September 3 at 10.35pm on BBC3.
