Waterloo Road in demolition drama

The real-life primary school which doubles as Waterloo Road is being demolished – and its destruction will play a key part in the final episode of the current series.

The former Hill Top Primary School, in Rochdale, has been a key filming location ever since the hit BBC1 series started in 2005.

Viewers will have to tune into the series finale in May to see exactly what happens to the school and the cast.

Meanwhile, the show's bosses will have to find a new location for the next series, which will see Waterloo Road merge with another school.

The Beeb has revealed that the merger will cause problems in 'both the playground and the staffroom'.

There will be a host of new characters, while regulars Eva Pope, Angela Griffin and Denise Welch will reprise their roles.
